HURRICANE

The Hurricane fashion collection is a celebration of the raw, untamed power of nature. It’s a call to embrace our inner storm, and to fearlessly face life’s challenges head-on. The designs in this collection are wild and at the same time classic, reflecting the energy, excitement, and unpredictability of a hurricane. The collection will feature pieces that are more flowy and stormy, offering a contrast to the classy wide statement pieces in the rest of the collection. The calm center of the collection is a nod to the eye of the hurricane. The color palette is a blend of black, white, grey and light blue  hues, representing the swirling winds and clouds of a storm. The textures of the materials used in the collection – soft, flowy cottons, black, white and some metallic fabrics – mimic the roughness and unpredictability of a hurricane, reminding us that beauty can be found in the chaos.

This collection is not just about looking good, it’s about feeling good. Its about loving yourself.  It’s a reminder that life may be unpredictable, but we have the power to weather any storm. Everyone have the power to fight for their dreams in life. The Hurricane fashion collection is a celebration of the unbreakable spirit within us all and shows that everyone can be confident. Every introvert can be an extrovert. It’s a celebration of the power of balance between good and bad, beautiful and ugly, confident and shy, black and white or stormy and calm.

Miami, Florida, USA // Fall 2017- Overcast skies, gusty winds, high waves, large puddles in the streets and fallen palm fronds. I haven‘t been here in a year and I hardly recognize it anymore. Seaweed mountains pile up on the beach, locals try to tidy up everything tourist-friendly – in vain. It‘s been a week since Hurricane Irma wreaked havoc here. Miami is not as badly affected as the Virgin Islands, Cuba or Key West, but the effects of the level 5 hurricane are also clearly noticeable here. The people here know it, it happens several times a year, but for me it is a formative experience.

Hurricanes are large rotating tropical storms that usually develop between June and November in the Atlantic, but can also occur in other oceans. They develop wind speeds of over 119 kilometers per hour. The direction of rotation of the storm is influenced by the rotation of the earth. The „Eye“ is a nearly circular feature with relatively light winds and fair weather at the center of a strong tropical cyclone. Here it is often windless and almost cloudless. Even if there is largely no wind in the middle of the circulation, individual gusts can reach far into the eye.

What is the origin and life cycle of a hurricane?

Hurricanes generally form in the trade wind zone over the water of the Atlantic or eastern Pacific at a water temperature of over 26.5 °C. When a uniform temperature gradient at high altitudes exceeds a certain level, a tropical cyclone can form. The water evaporates in large quantities and rises by con- vection. Large clouds form as a result of condensation. This condensation of huge masses of water releases enormous amounts of energy (latent heat). A negative pressure is created above the warm sea surface and air with ahigh water vapor content flows in from the environment. This creates a zone of very high air pressure above the hurricane clouds, from which the air spreads out again in an oppositely directed vortex (anticyclone). However, the area covered by a hurricane is far too large for a single closed air parcel to form and rise as a whole.

Typical for all tropical cyclones is the formation of spiral rain bands, in which thermal updrafts prevail, and zones in between, in which somewhat cooler and drier air sinks again – without rain. Inflowing moist air rises in the rain bands and constantly supplies water and energy. The air masses flowing in on the ground are set in rotation by the Coriolis force, creating a large-scale vortex. When a hurricane comes close to land, some of its near-surface supply streams also shift overland, causing significantly drier air to enter the system and reducing energy input. If a hurricane sweeps across land, its supply of water and thus its energy runs dry: it gradually loses its power and first becomes a (weaker) tropical storm, only to then disappear as a tropical depression.

In which places and areas do hurricanes form?

Hurricanes generally occur in the trade wind zone, in the Atlantic Ocean mostly south-west of Cape Verde, in the area of the Caribbean Sea, the West Indies and the Gulf of Mexico, from minor disturbances in the trade wind currents that move across the Atlantic just south of the Sahara desert. This region of origin of most hurricanes is also called Hurricane Alley.
